“The entire family is cheering for you!” - Mohammed Shami shares heartwarming post for brother Mohammed Kaif on his T20 debut in SMAT 2024-25
Indian pacer Mohammed Shami took to social media to congratulate his younger brother, Mohammed Kaif, on his T20 debut for Bengal in the 2024-25 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT). Kaif made his debut during Bengal's Group A match against Rajasthan on Thursday, December 5, at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Rajkot.
Although it wasn't a memorable performance for the 27-year-old pacer, who conceded 44 runs in his four-over spell without taking a wicket, Shami expressed immense pride in his brother's achievement. He took to Instagram to share a heartfelt message, writing:
“Congratulations to my brother @mdkaif1012 for representing Bengal in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy! Making your debut at this level is a big milestone, and I’m so proud of you. Keep giving your best and enjoying this journey. The entire family is cheering for you!"
Rajasthan, batting first, posted a total of 153, with solid contributions from Kartik Sharma (46) and captain Mahipal Lomror (45). Shami was the standout bowler for Bengal, taking three wickets, while Shahbaz Ahmed and Sayan Ghosh claimed two wickets each.
In reply, Abishek Porel played a brilliant knock for Bengal, scoring 78 off 48 balls, including seven boundaries and four sixes. Captain Sudip Gharami remained unbeaten on 50 off 45 balls as Bengal chased down the target, securing a seven-wicket victory with seven balls to spare.
Mohammed Kaif made his List A debut in 2021
Right-arm pacer Mohammed Kaif made his List-A debut for Bengal in the 2021 Vijay Hazare Trophy, although he went wicketless in that match. Overall, he has featured in nine games, claiming 12 wickets, with his best figures being 3 for 39.
He made his first-class debut earlier this year in a match against Andhra, where he claimed three wickets. His most recent appearance was last month against Madhya Pradesh, where he again took three wickets. In total, he has played in nine matches, taking 25 wickets.
