"The king of bowling in the IPL" - Fans react to Yuzvendra Chahal becoming the first bowler to claim 200 wickets in IPL

Rajasthan Royals (RR) spinner Yuzvendra Chahal wrote his name in history books by becoming the first bowler to secure 200 wickets in Indian Premier League (IPL) history.

Chahal achieved this feat against the Mumbai Indians (MI) on Monday (April 22) in Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur. He dismissed Mohammad Nabi (23) to reach the historic milestone in the eighth over of the innings.

The cricket fraternity on X (formerly Twitter) reserved high praise for Yuzvendra Chahal. Here are some tweets:

"Yuzvendra Chahal! The king of bowling in the IPL. Number 1," AB de Villiers tweeted.
"Yuzvendra Chahal is such a classic IPL story. Has been favoured by franchises, has lost favour with franchises & has through it all been the talisman for whichever jersey he’s donned while continuing to take wickets with regular frequency. Champion bowler."

This fan praised the consistency of Chahal in IPL history and bashed the Royal Challengers Bengaluru for letting him go after the 2021 season.

"200 up for Yuzvendra Chahal. Never forget that RCB let go of a bowler - that too a wrist spinner - who averages 20 wickets a season for the last 10 years in IPL. Mind boggling!"

Few fans also pointed out how the wily spinner has never represented India in any of the T20 World Cups despite his wicket-taking abilities.

"India's Greatest T20 Bowler has never represented India in the T20 World Cup!," one fan tweeted.
"Most wickets for India in T20I. [Men's]. First bowler to complete 200 wickets in IPL. Still Chahal hasn't played a single match in T20I WC, one of the sad stories of Indian cricket," another fan commented.

Dwayne Bravo (183), Piyush Chawla (181), Bhuvneshwar Kumar (174), and Amit Mishra (173) round off the top-five bowlers in the IPL history.

Yuzvendra Chahal gets hammered for three sixes in an over

Although Yuzvendra Chahal created history in his opening spell, he could not be potent enough in his third over. Tilak Varma hit a single six, while Nehal Wadhera slammed two maximums against Chahal in the 16th over of the innings.

Nevertheless, Trent Boult broke the 99-run stand by dismissing Wadhera (49) in the following over. At the time of writing, MI are at 152/5, with Hardik Pandya (1) and Varma (56) at the crease.
