"The victory will always be marred by loss of lives"- Two-time IPL winner reacts to Bengaluru stampede after RCB's IPL 2025 win
Former India batter Robin Uthappa has said that Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB)'s IPL 2025 victory will always be overshadowed by the stampede outside the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium on June 4. The 39-year-old felt that it was unfortunate that the franchise could not celebrate their victory that was achieved after such a long wait.
As many as 11 people lost their lives in the stampede that happened outside RCB's home venue.
"The victory is always be marred by the loss of the lives of people involved. It is so unfortunate that they can't even celebrate the win that they have achieved after so many years, after so much of hard work.
"It is going to be marred by this and so you got to feel sad for the fans and of course for the players," Uthappa said on his YouTube channel.
The franchise offered Rs 10 lakh to each of the families who lost their loved ones in the incident.
Robin Uthappa says he delayed posting content on his social media platforms because he was angered by the incident
Robin Uthappa, who won two IPL titles in his career, said that he had delayed posting anything on his social media platforms because he was angered by what had happened outside the Chinnaswamy Stadium.
"I was angry for almost a day and I really delayed even putting anything out on social media because I was so angry. In a sense, we were talking about a modicum of balance during the rivalries bit right? One can understand that in the celebrations.
"You really want people to get close to the team and celebrate with them. I certainly think it could have been better planned, maybe take a day off to just plan the whole event because the city did deserve it, to be very honest," Uthappa said.
RCB's head of marketing and revenue Nikhil Sosale, who was arrested by the city police a few days after the stampede, was given interim bail on Friday.
