“There maybe some worrying signs” - Brett Lee discloses Travis Head’s potential injury during BGT 2024-25 3rd Test
Former Australia pacer Brett Lee revealed that Travis Head may be struggling with a groin injury towards the end of the third Border-Gavaskar series Test at The Gabba in Brisbane. The explosive batter looked unsettled at the crease, and hobbled his way around for a 19-bal 17 in the second innings on Day 5, before being dismissed by Mohammed Siraj.
Travis Head played three successive marathon innings in the series, including two back-to-back tons in Adelaide and Brisbane respectively. He played out more than 10 deliveries in each of his last three innings, and the hot and humid weather during the third Test also did not make things easier for him.
He was seen limping while running on Day 5 and also had stretched his leg on numerous occasions, sparking claims that all was not well. The batter was also not present on the field in India's two-over stint in the fourth innings before rain returned to end proceedings.
“There may some worrying signs for Travis Head. Just there (while batting), he couldn’t move. We’re hearing a potential groin (injury). We don’t know how bad it is … definitely wasn’t moving as freely as he does normally," Brett Lee said on commentary (via Fox Sports)
Travis Head recorded a couple of boundaries in his innings but did not look comfortable out in the middle. His discomfort was reflected through the manner of his dismissal where he played a strayed and casual shot, only to be caught by Rishabh Pant.
"Just a little sore but I should be fine" - Travis Head
Travis Head was adjudged player of the match for his brilliant century in the first innings. The explosive batter scored 152 runs off 160 deliveries to help Australia post 445 after being put into bat first. This marked his second ton of the series, and his third against India overall.
"Feel like I've done that well in this series so far, very happy with the tempo I'm batting with. Pretty relaxed communication, feel like he (Smith) was in great rhythm, gives me great confidence when batting with him, was a nice partnership, really enjoyed it. When I first get out there, I try and navigate different challenges, solve different problems. Just a little sore but I should be fine (before the next game)," Travis Head said during the post-match presentation (via Cricbuzz)
The batter has a week to recover after a hectic first half of the Border-Gavaskar series. The fourth Test is scheduled to begin from December 26 onwards at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).
