There's a big margin between Jasprit Bumrah and other top-class bowlers around the world: Sanjay Manjrekar on India's star speedster
Former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar heaped praise on Jasprit Bumrah for yet another incredible outing for the Men in Blue in the ongoing 2024 T20 World Cup. The pacer returned with sensational figures of 3/7 in his four overs, giving away just one boundary and helping India beat Afghanistan in their Super Eight fixture by 47 runs.
Manjrekar shed light on just how miserly Bumrah had been in the tournament and compared that to Sunil Narine's impact on Kolkata Knight Riders' victorious IPL 2024 season. He believes there is a bit of daylight between Bumrah and other world-class bowlers.
Speaking to ESPNCricinfo after the game, here's what Sanjay Manjrekar had to say about Bumrah:
“Jasprit Bumrah is performing in USA and West Indies just like Sunil Narine at Eden Gardens during the IPL. He's looking even better and when you look at all the top-class bowlers around the world. There's a big margin between them and Bumrah and India is so fortunate to have him in your playing 11."
Former Indian legendary leg-spinner Anil Kumble was also present in the discussion and he dissected how Jasprit Bumrah planned Rahmanullah Gurbaz's dismissal.
The star pacer bowled a slower delivery away from Gurbaz's hitting arc and got him caught behind. Kumble was impressed by Bumrah's accuracy and how he never erred in his execution, despite the batter being aware of his variations.
Sanjay Manjrekar on Suryakumar Yadav's knock
Sanjay Manjrekar also hailed Suryakumar Yadav for the star batter's match-winning knock of 53 off just 28 balls on a pitch that had enough help for Afghanistan's quality spinners. Manjrekar shed light on how SKY attacked Rashid Khan and didn't let the world-class spinner settle.
On this, he stated:
“This is the advantage India have for having one of the best T20 batters in the world. Tricky pitch, Rashid Khan on song and again you saw the value that Suryakumar Yadav brings to any team. And again the thing to like about him which is not really highlighted much is the amount of ground shots that he plays. He chips the balls over the infield in the gaps."
Suryakumar Yadav won his 15th Player of the Match award in T20Is, the joint-most for India in the format alongside Virat Kohli. India will next face Bangladesh in Antigua on Saturday, June 22.
