"There will be some bad weather somewhere" - When Australian legend made correct predictions ahead of BGT 2024-25
Former Australia captain Ricky Ponting had correctly predicted 'bad weather' while making his predictions for the five-game Border-Gavaskar Trophy in August earlier this year. The reaction gained significance as Day 1 of the third Test only witnessed 13.2 overs of action due to incessant rainfall at the Gabba in Brisbane.
The forecast remains gloomy over the next few days, which might affect the fate of the game.
According to BBC weather, rain is likely to fall on all the remaining four days of the third Test. The temperature will hover around 22 to 28 degrees Celcius.
In a statement, the BCCI confirmed that the game will begin 30 minutes early and 98 overs would be bowled on the next day to compensate Day 1 overs loss subject to weather permitting.
They wrote on X:
"Play for Day 1 in Brisbane has been stopped today due to rain."
"Play will resume tomorrow and all following days at 09:50 AM local time (5:20 AM IST) with minimum 98 overs to be bowled," it added.
Ricky Ponting had told ICC:
"There will be a draw somewhere and there will be some bad weather somewhere, so I'm going to say 3-1 to Australia."
"It's going to be a competitive series" - Australia's Ricky Ponting's pinpoint prediction as series is tied 1-1
Ricky Ponting had also predicted that it would be competitive series for Australia as India won the last two series by identical 2-1 margins down under during 2018-19 and 2020-21 tours.
The cricketer-turned-commentator had said during the same interaction:
"It's going to be a competitive series and, as I said, I think Australia's got a bit of a point to prove against India in Australia on the back of what's happened the last two series here."
India won the opening Test by 295 runs in Perth, courtesy of centuries from Yashasvi Jaiswal, Virat Kohli and a fifer from stand-in-captain Jasprit Bumrah.
Pat Cummins-led side then bounced back in style by winning the second (pink-ball) Test by 10 wickets in Adelaide to level the series 1-1.
