"This guy isn't made for this format" - Fans react after Shivam Dube perishes for a duck in IND vs SL 2nd ODI
Fans were left disappointment after Shivam Dube was dismissed for a duck in the ongoing second ODI between India and Sri Lanka on Sunday, August 4. The R. Premadasa Stadium, Colombo is hosting this contest.
Batting first, the home team managed to post a modest total of 240 on the board, with major contributions from Avishka Fernando (40) and Kamindu Mendis (40). Washington Sundar was the pick of the bowlers for India with three scalps.
In response, India started on a dominating note with openers Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill (35) stitching a 97-run stand. Rohit continued his blistering form by slamming 64 off 44 balls, with five fours and four sixes. After the duo's dismissals, Dube was promoted to No. 4.
Unfortunately, he could not make use of the promotion and was trapped LBW by Jeffrey Vandersay for a four-ball duck in the 18th over. The right-arm spinner's delivery pitched outside the off-stump and turned sharply to ruffle his pads, and make an impact on the middle stump. The southpaw's dismissal left India at 116/3.
Fans on X lambasted Dube's proficiency in the 50-over format and also questioned team management's decision to send him ahead of KL Rahul. Here are some reactions:
"And Shivam Dube with no footwork gets out. This guy isn't made for this format stop picking him," one fan opined.

"Shivam Dube gone for duck. Bro don't make this match interesting. Don't want to see Siraj and Arshdeep's batting," a fan wrote on X.
"Dear Rohit Sharma, if you think Shivam Dube is the next Yuvraj Singh, you are wrong. I really don't know why Indian team is carrying such 'big' and 'slow' baggage. It proves once again that playing in IPL and playing for your country are two different ball game," another posted.
"Every match of shivam dube makes me realise how invincible hardik is for white ball cricket," a fan tweeted.
