“This is the national team not my father’s team” - Tabraiz Shamsi’s brutal response to fan regarding SA vs PAK 2024 series
South African spin bowler Tabraiz Shamsi recently gave a sharp retort to a fan's comments on social media with regards to his involvement in South Africa's upcoming assignment against Pakistan later next month.
This comes after Enoch Nkwe, director of cricket for South Africa, stated that Quinton de Kock, Shamsi and Anrich Nortje were committed to South African cricket and would be considered for ICC events as well. A user on X stated that they had moved on from the trio, to which Shamsi replied:
"Maybe get your facts right before you start spreading hate. The tweet literally says we are FULLY COMMITTED to playing for South Africa. Just waiting for our chance when we are asked to play so we can try our best. I'm not sure whats so difficult to understand about that 🤔🤷♂️"
Under the comments of that post, the fan replied:
"A fully committed person would not even have to make that decision because it would be obvious that he will play if they were "fully committed."
Shamsi responded:
"A 'fully committed player' doesnt selected himself to play for the country. This is the national team not my father's team where I can just walk in and say Im playing today or no Im not playing today. There are plans in place and intelligent people making the necessary decisions."

Tabraiz Shamsi is currently plying his trade for the Lahore Qalandars in the Global Super League 2024, which is being played in Guyana. He played the opening encounter of the tournament against Guyana Amazon Warriors, where he bowled a spell of 0/20 in his four overs.
Shamsi was not a part of the recently concluded T20I series against India but could feature in the Proteas' upcoming white-ball assignment against Pakistan next month
