"This isn't selfless but careless cricket" - Fans react as Rohit Sharma departs for just 2 in 2024 IND vs NZ 1st Test
India captain Rohit Sharma failed to deliver with the bat in the ongoing first of the three-match Test series against New Zealand at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Day 2 (Thursday, October 17). The right-handed batter was dismissed by Tim Southee for just 2 as the hosts lost their first wicket for 9 runs.
With another failure, Rohit continued his lean patch with the bat. The 37-year-old had registered a string of low scores during the recently concluded two-match Test series in Bangladesh. His scores read: 6, 5, 23, and 8.
Fans on X trolled Rohit Sharma for his form in Test cricket. One user wrote:

“The next Test series is the Border-Gavaskar Trophy” – Aakash Chopra on Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli’s poor form
Former India batter Aakash Chopra recently opened up about Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli’s form. The cricketer-turned-commentator pointed out that the duo needs to deliver ahead of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
He said on his YouTube channel (via cricketaddictor.com):
“Is there slight pressure on Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli because the last Test series was extremely ordinary according to their standards? The next Test series is the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, so you want to score runs and move forward."
"Although Virat Kohli scored runs in the last inning, when we talk about the Kanpur Test, the flow wasn't seen. The dominance, silken touch, and rhythm you expect from Virat Kohli wasn't seen,” he continued.
Chopra added:
“Generally, you come after playing consistently; play T20s in the middle, so the rhythm is maintained. You have left T20s. You played only ODI cricket in Sri Lanka.
"That was in August first week, and after that, nothing in August and the entire September, and now October, and a lot of runs have not been scored," he concluded.
Notably, Virat Kohli departed for an eight-ball duck against New Zealand.
