“This slow burn in SL is a relief” – Ravichandran Ashwin calls India vs Sri Lanka ODI series a treat to watch

Ravichandran Ashwin is enjoying the low-scoring games between India and Sri Lanka in the ongoing ODI series. The legendary off-spinner is loving the ‘ebbs and flows’, calling it a test for the new generation who watch a lot of T20 cricket and high-scoring affairs in the two white-ball formats.

Notably, the Men in Blue were considered favorites to win the ODI series but the hosts tied the opening game before winning the second by 32 runs to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series. The game saw scores of 230 and 240 in an era where 300 is the new normal.

During the ODI series decider on Wednesday (August 7), Ashwin wrote on X:

“Amidst all the mayhem and high-scoring games in white ball cricket, this slow burn in SL is a relief. It’s a great watch if you love the ebbs and flows of the game but it can test your patience if you are from the Slam bang cricket gen.”

On the personal front, Ashwin recently led Dindigul Dragons to the maiden Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) 2024 title. The 37-year-old scored 252 runs and bagged nine wickets in 10 games. He is expected to next be in action during the two-match Test series against Bangladesh in September.

Sri Lanka dominate India in ODI series decider

A clinical batting display has so far helped Sri Lanka dominate India in the ODI series decider at R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. That came as skipper Charith Asalanka won the toss and chose to bat first.

At the time of writing, the hosts were 171-2 after 35.3 overs, with Asalanka and Kusal Mendis at the crease. Avishka Fernando (96 off 102 balls) missed out on a well-deserved century, while Pathum Nissanka scored 45 off 65 deliveries. Riyan Parag and Axar Patel provided the two breakthroughs, respectively.

Sri Lanka are chasing their first ODI series win against India since 1997. Since then, Team India have won 11 out of 13 ODI series against the islanders, while two ended in draws.
