Chepauk Super Gillies locked horns with Lyca Kovai Kings in the inaugural match of the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) 2024 at the SCF Cricket Ground in Salem.
Gillies won the toss and opted to field first. Balasubramaniam Sachin played a superb innings, scoring 63 runs off 53 balls with eight fours, and was supported by U Mukilesh, who added 31 runs off 25 balls. The team set a target of 141, losing seven wickets in the process.
Abhishek Tanwar was the wrecker-in-chief with a four-fer while Ganeshan Periyaswamy and Daryl Ferrario picked up one wicket each.
In reply, Chepauk's opener D Kumar was dismissed on the second ball of the first over. Despite this early setback, Narayan Jagadeesan (18) and captain Baba Aparajith (38) built a 56-run partnership for the second wicket. Later, Pradosh Ranjan Paul contributed 40 runs off 32 balls before retiring out. Unfortunately, the remaining batters were unable to secure the win, falling short by 13 runs.
