TNPL 2024: How did the IPL players fare in Nellai Royal Kings vs Salem Spartans, Match 9? ft. Sonu Yadav & Arun Karthik

On Thursday, July 11, Nellai Royal Kings and Salem Spartans met in the ninth Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) 2024 match at the Salem Cricket Foundation Ground in Salem.

Nellai Royal Kings won the toss and elected to field first. Spartans openers S Abishiek (6) and R Kavin (16) were dismissed in the powerplay. Robin Bist batted at No. 3 and scored 23 runs off 20 balls, including three fours. Rajendran Vivek and Vishal Vaidhya added 13 and 12, respectively.

Shijit Chandran, the Spartans captain, scored 20 runs off 18 with two fours and one six. Later, Harish Kumar (17), Sunny Sandhu (14), and Muhammed Adnan Khan (10) made handy contributions in the lower order, resulting in a total of 141.

Sonu Yadav of Salem Spartans did an excellent job in the bowling attack with a five-fer. Ragupathy Silambarasan also picked up two wickets while Mohan Prasath, Emmanuel Cherian, and NS Harish picked up one wicket apiece.

In reply, Nellai Royal Kings captain Arun Karthik scored 11 runs off eight balls while Guruswamy Ajitesh added 45, including six fours and a maximum, in the top order. Later, with Laxmesha Suryaprakash’s unbeaten 43 of 35, the Kings chased the target in 18.5 overs with three wickets in hand.

ME Yazh Arun Mozhi took three wickets for the Spartans while Harish Kumar took two, and Sunny Sandhu and M Poiyamozhi picked up one apiece.

Sonu Yadav (Nellai Royal Kings)

Sonu Yadav, who has represented the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), bowled an excellent spell on Thursday. He picked up a five-wicket haul in his four-over spell, giving away 30 runs at an economy of 7.50.

However, Sonu failed to perform with the bat, scoring two runs off three balls.


Arun Karthik (Nellai Royal Kings)

Arun Karthik, another former RCB batter, had a poor run in the previous match against the Salem Spartans. He opened for his side and scored only 11 runs off eight balls.

Karthik has scored 21 runs in two games at a strike rate of 161.53.
