"Too good a talent to be missing out for long" - Former Indian cricketer on KL Rahul's T20I future

Former Indian cricketer Dodda Ganesh believes star batter KL Rahul can still have a great career with the Men in Blue in the shortest format if he changes his approach. Rahul wasn't a part of India's squad that won the T20 World Cup and has also not played a T20I ever since their 10-wicket loss to England in the T20 World Cup 2022 semifinal.

Despite the selectors seeming to have moved on from Rahul in T20Is, Ganesh feels there is enough talent in the right-hander to make a comeback. However, he feels there is a mental adjustment that Rahul will need to make, especially with his intent in T20 cricket.

Here's what Dodda Ganesh wrote on X (formerly Twitter):

"If KL Rahul rectifies his approach in the T20s he can still make a comeback and have a great stint with the Indian team in the T20Is. He is too good a talent to be missing out for long #DoddaMathu #SLvIND"

Rahul scored 520 runs in the IPL 2024 season for the Lucknow Super Giants. However, they came at a strike rate of 136.13, an area Dodda Ganesh might be wanting the batter to focus on improving.

Rohit Sharma on KL Rahul vs Rishabh Pant conundrum

Indian captain Rohit Sharma understands the happy headache they have ahead of their ODI series against Sri Lanka as to who will be the first-choice wicketkeeper between Rahul and Rishabh Pant. However, the veteran opener claimed that both are quality options:

"It's difficult to choose between KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant. Both are match-winners in their own way. But it's a happy problem and I want to have that kind of problems. We will decide tomorrow."

India will be playing a three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka with the first game on Friday, August 2.
