Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) batter Glenn Maxwell starred with the bat against five-time champions Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Wankhede Stadium on Tuesday, May 9.
Maxwell came to the crease when the visitors were struggling at 16/2 after 2.2 overs. The 34-year-old then played an impactful knock of 68 runs in just 33 balls at a staggering strike rate of 206.06, including four sixes and eight boundaries.
The Australian batter also shared a 120-run partnership with skipper Faf du Plessis for the third wicket to resurrect RCB’s innings. He was eventually caught by Nehal Wadhera at deep mid-wicket off Jason Behrendorff’s bowling.

For the uninitiated, Maxwell has been sensational with the bat ever since joining RCB in 2021. He scored 513 and 301 in the last two IPL seasons, respectively. The Bengaluru-based franchise retained him for ₹11 crore ahead of IPL 2023 mini-auction.
In 2023, the Aussie all-rounder has, so far, amassed 330 runs in 11 games at a strike rate of 186.44. The right-handed batter has scored four half-centuries against the Lucknow Super Giants, Chennai Super Kings, Rajasthan Royals, and Mumbai Indians.
However, he hasn’t been consistent, having been dismissed five times for single-digit scores in the ongoing IPL.
Glenn Maxwell and Faf du Plessis’ half-century help RCB set 200-run target for MI
A clinical batting performance from Glenn Maxwell and Faf du Plessis helped RCB post 199/6 in their allotted 20 overs. Du Plessis scored 65 off 41 balls at a strike rate of 158.54, including three sixes and five boundaries. Dinesh Karthik also chipped in with 30 off 18 deliveries.
For MI, Jason Behrendorff emerged as the pick of the bowlers, returning with figures of 3/36. Cameron Green, Chris Jordan, and Kumar Kartikeya settled with one wicket apiece.
