United States vs India: Who won yesterday’s match in 2024 T20 World Cup?

India beat the United States by seven wickets in yesterday's ICC Men's 2024 T20 World Cup match at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York. By virtue of their victory, the Men in Blue also became the first team from Group A to qualify for the Super 8.

Bowling first after winning the toss, Team India restricted the US to 110-8 as Arshdeep Singh starred with 4-9, the best bowling figures by an Indian bowler in the T20 World Cup. Hardik Pandya (2-14) impressed again as the Men in Blue kept the opposition under check.

In their chase, India lost Virat Kohli (0) and Rohit Sharma (3) inside three overs. However, Suryakumar Yadav (50* off 49) and Shivam Dube (31* off 35) held their nerves to take India home, pulling off the highest successful chase at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium.

India got off to a great start with the ball as Arshdeep dismissed Shayan Jahangir (0) and Andries Gous (2) in the first over. Jahangir, coming up for the injured Monank Patel, was trapped lbw for a golden duck by one that came back in sharply, while Gous completely miscued a pull.

Pandya then continued his great World Cup, dismissing Aaron Jones (11) with a bouncer that was too good for the batter.

Axar Patel ended Steven Taylor's resistance for 24 off 30. After being struck for a six, he had his revenge by forcing the batter to inside-edge a delivery pitched close to the stumps. Nitish Kumar contributed 27 off 23 before his knock ended when Mohammed Siraj took a brilliant leaping catch at deep midwicket, giving Arshdeep his third wicket.

Corey Anderson (15) was the next to go, perishing to another short ball from Pandya. Harmeet Singh (10) and Shadley van Schalkwyk (11*) dragged the USA to 110-8.

Suryakumar Yadav guides India home after early wobble

Chasing 111, India lost Kohli for a golden duck as he flirted at one outside off stump from Saurabh Netravalkar.

Skipper Rohit also fell to the Mumbai-born US left-arm pacer, chipping a simple catch towards mid-off. When Ali Khan knocked over Rishabh Pant (18) with one that angled back in sharply, India were in a spot of bother at 39-3 in the eighth over.

Suryakumar struggled for momentum but hung in. He had a massive slice of luck in the 13th over when Netravalkar dropped his former Mumbai teammate, running back from short third man. USA were later also penalized five runs for taking more than 60 seconds between overs for a third time, which pretty much took the fight out of the US camp.
