"Unreal downfall of SA" - Top 10 funny memes after Pakistan's historic whitewash against South Africa in ODI series 2024

Pakistan beat South Africa by 36 runs (DLS method) in the third ODI on Sunday (December 22) at the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg. The Men in Green became the first team to whitewash South Africa at the latter's home in a bilateral ODI series, drawing hilarious reactions from fans.

The third match was reduced to a 47-over affair due to inclement weather conditions at the venue. After being asked to bat first, Pakistan notched up a decent total of 308/9 in 47 overs on the back of a century from opener Saim Ayub (101).

The likes of Babar Azam (52), Mohammad Rizwan (53), and Agha Salman (48) also chipped in with handy contributions in the batting department. Kagiso Rabada scalped three wickets, while Marco Jansen and Bjorn Fortuin picked up two wickets apiece for the Proteas with the ball.

In reply, South Africa were bundled out for 271 in 42 overs and lost the match by 36 runs according to Duckworth Lewis's (DLS) method. Heinrich Klaasen played a blistering knock of 81 (43) to keep the hosts in the hunt during the chase. However, other batters did not support him much, which resulted in a third straight loss for South Africa in the series.

Fans enjoyed the third ODI between the two teams on Sunday night and reacted by sharing memes on X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram. One of the memes read:

"Obviously a disappointing end to the series" - South Africa captain Temba Bavuma after loss to Pakistan in 3rd ODI 2024

At the post-match presentation, South Africa skipper Temba Bavuma reflected on the loss, saying (via Cricbuzz):

"Obviously a disappointing end to the series. As a team we have come out with more questions than answers. There will have to be deep introspection to be done as individuals."

On the positives from the series, he said:

"Klaasen was the shining light. He seemed to be batting on a different surface altogether. Great to see him batting like that. A number of us will be donning the whites in a couple of days against Pakistan. It is important that we come back stronger in the red ball format."

Pakistan and South Africa will now square off in a two-match Test series, which commences on Boxing Day in Centurion.
