USA vs Bangladesh T20 World Cup 2024 warm-up fixture abandoned due to weather conditions

The T20 World Cup 2024 warm-up fixture between Bangladesh and USA scheduled for Tuesday (May 28) in Dallas has been cancelled due to thunderstorms. The sides couldn't go out for their practice sessions and remained in the hotel due to heavy rain and flood warnings.

The fixture was going to be the first warm-up for both sides ahead of the tournament, which will begin on June 1. Co-hosts USA will open their campaign against Canada on June 1, while the Tigers will lock horns against Sri Lanka on June 7. The matches were crucial for Najmul Hossain Shanto and his men to get accustomed to the conditions.

"This is to confirm that the warm-up match between Bangladesh and the USA at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas today has been cancelled due to the conditions of the facilities following the adverse weather that has affected the area," Rabeed Iman, Bangladesh's team manager issued a statement, as quoted by ESPN Cricinfo.

The opening warm-up match between Canada and Nepal took place without any interruption in Dallas, with the former emerging victorious by 63 runs.

The sub-continent nation received a jolt to their tournament preparations with their series defeat against USA. The three-match series saw the Tigers lose the first two matches by five wickets and six runs, respectively.

Nevertheless, they won the final match by 10 wickets to somewhat boost their confidence ahead of the 20-team competition. Nevertheless, USA pacer Ali Khan sent a warning note to the other teams ahead of the T20 World Cup, stating that their series win was not a fluke. He believes the US can cause some upsets in the tournament.

England will start as defending champions, having defeated Pakistan in the 2022 T20 World Cup final at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). Jos Buttler's men should once again start as favourites to lift the trophy.
