Veteran batter recalled for Champions Trophy 2025 as England announce squads for ICC event and white-ball tour of India
England Cricket has announced their squad for the upcoming white-ball tour of India, scheduled for January-February 2025, as well as for the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy. The tournament, which begins on February 19, will be held in Pakistan and a neutral venue, yet to be announced by the ICC.
The series against India will be Brendon McCullum's first white-ball assignment as coach. Jos Buttler will continue to lead the team, while Joe Root, the No. 1 Test batter, has been included in the ODI squad for the first time since the 2023 Cricket World Cup.
Meanwhile, red-ball captain Ben Stokes, who came out of retirement to play in the 2023 ODI World Cup, will miss both the Indian series and the marquee tournament. He is currently being evaluated following a left hamstring injury sustained during the third Test against New Zealand earlier this month.
Spinner Adil Rashid has been included in both squads, alongside rising star Jacob Bethell, while Rehan Ahmed has been named only for the T20Is. Meanwhile, notable absentees from both squads include Sam Curran and Reece Topley.
