Virat Kohli drops 6 spots, Rohit Sharma moves out of top 30 in latest rankings ahead of BGT 2024-25 3rd Test
Star Indian batters Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have taken a hit as far as the latest ICC Men's Test batting rankings are concerned. At present, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rishabh Pant are the only Indians in the top 10.
While Virat scored a brilliant hundred in Perth, he failed to get going in Adelaide, with scores of 7 and 11 in the two innings. As a result, he has dropped six spots in the latest ICC Men's Test batting rankings and is now placed at 20th with 661 rating points.
Meanwhile, Indian Test captain Rohit Sharma, who returned for the pink ball Test in Adelaide after missing out on the Perth Test, dropped five spots, moving out of the top 30. Rohit struggled in Adelaide, scoring 3 and 6, in the two innings respectively. He is now placed at 31st in the rankings with 595 rating points.
The form of both Virat and Rohit, who are among India's most experienced batters, is concerning ahead of the third Border Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25 Test, as their positions in the latest ICC Men's Test batting rankings have also taken significant dents.
A new No. 1 in the ICC Men's Test batting rankings
Meanwhile, England batter Joe Root has been dethroned from the top position in the ICC Men's Test batting rankings. Root, who overtook Kane Williamson earlier this year, has dropped a spot to the second position.
Replacing him at the top is none other than his England teammate Harry Brook. Brook has been on the rise and with his recent success against New Zealand in Wellington, has climbed a spot up to claim the top position.
Brook was impressive with scores of 123 and 55 in England's massive 323-run victory against the Kiwis in the second Test. Brook now has 898 rating points and is ahead of Root (897) by just a solitary point, taking a slender lead.
Kane Williamson remains at number three while Yashasvi Jaiswal remains at number four. Travis Head (up by six spots), Kamindu Mendis (up by one spot), and Temba Bavuma (up by three spots), take the fifth, sixth, and seventh positions respectively.
New Zealand's Daryl Mitchell, India's Rishabh Pant, and Pakistan's Saud Shakeel at positions eight, nine, and 10, respectively, complete the top 10.
