"Virat Kohli is just gonna go from strength to strength" - Brian Lara continues to back India legend amid his struggles in T20 World Cup 2024
Legendary West Indian batter Brian Lara has thrown his weight behind Virat Kohli amid the Indian legend's poor form in the T20 World Cup 2024. The Trinidadian believes Kohli will get runs in Antigua, where India will play Bangladesh next.
The former Indian captain managed a sluggish run-a-ball 24 as Team India overcame Afghanistan in Bridgetown on Thursday, June 20. The sedate knock followed three single-score scores against Ireland, Pakistan, and the USA.
Speaking to Star Sports, Lara opined spending time in the middle is the most important thing for Kohli and that he is not far away from regaining his form.
"24 off 24, you can say that’s not great but the most important thing is that he spent some time out there. India has got one step closer to winning this trophy. I believe that Virat Kohli is just gonna go from strength to strength as he comes down to the Caribbean. He’s going to Antigua next, you’re gonna see him go out there and plough and plough, he’s gonna get runs," he said.
Kohli looked to have regained his form as he bided his time in the middle. The 35-year-old hit a straight six off Naveen-ul-Haq's bowling, which truly signaled his return to form.
"We just have to be very patient with him" - Brian Lara
Lara went on to call for patience with Kohli, claiming that the Delhi-born cricketer is close to returning to form.
"When he gets into full swing, it’s a different story. We just have to be very patient with him, we’re gonna see a lot of him there’s still a lot of games left in this World Cup," he added in the same interaction.
Team India are one of the three sides still unbeaten in the tournament along with Australia and South Africa.
