Washington Sundar bowls a clinical super over as India register a nervy win over Sri Lanka

Washington Sundar bowled a gem of a Super Over as he ensured that the Sri Lankan batters were dismissed cheaply in the 3rd T20I played between India and Sri Lanka at Pallekele.

The off-spinner was tasked with bowling the all-important six deliveries, and he did an impeccable job. After conceding a brace off the first delivery, he managed to get the wicket of in-form Kusal Perera and dismissed Pathum Nissanka off consecutive deliveries.

Earlier in the game, hosts Sri Lanka had won the toss and asked the visitors to bat. A vigil at the top by Shubman Gill and a lower-order rear-guard action ensured India got to 137/9 in their stipulated 20 overs. The hosts had a good start with the bat, before things went awry for them, courtesy of Indian bowlers who pulled things back in their favour.

Sundar, coming off the back of a player-of-the-series performance in Zimbabwe, was given the ball and he delivered. In his spell of four overs, the off-spinner picked up the wickets of Charith Asalanka and Wanindu Hasaranga and conceded only 23 runs. He starred with the bat as well, scoring 25 runs off 18 deliveries.

Suryakumar Yadav and Rinku Singh star as India clinch victory from the jaws of defeat

India won the third match of the T20I series and ensured they completed a clean sweep over Sri Lanka. After restricting India to 137, Sri Lankan openers, Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Mendis, came out all guns blazing, ensuring they didn't lose a wicket throughout the powerplay. Victory looked in sight as Sri Lanka were on 110/1 after 15.1 overs, but things suddenly nosedived for them.

As has been the norm in this series, the Sri Lankan middle order collapsed yet again, this time losing seven wickets for 22 runs in 26 deliveries. Suryakumar Yadav and Rinku Singh rolled their arms over and picked up a couple of wickets each, which ensured the game was decided in the Super Over.

Following Washington Sundar's bowling, Suryakumar Yadav strode out to bat with Shubman Gill and ended the game with a boundary to start his captaincy tenure with a whitewash.

Brief Scores: India-137/9 [Shubman Gill: 39(37b), Riyan Parag: 26(18b); Maheesh Theekshana: 3/28 (4)] beat Sri Lanka-137/8 [Kusal Perera: 46(34b), Kusal Mendis: 43(41b), Washington Sundar: 2/23 (4)] in the Super Over.
