Washington Sundar sold to Gujarat Titans for ₹3.20 crore at IPL 2025 auction
Indian spin-bowling all-rounder Washington Sundar is set to ply his trade for Gujarat Titans (GT) in the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The talented youngster was roped in by the franchise for ₹3.20 crore on the second and final day of the IPL 2025 auction in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
Sundar entered the auction with a base price of ₹2 crore. While no teams showed interest initially, Gujarat raised the paddle just in the nick of time to begin the bidding. The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) also joined but it was the 2022 champions who eventually bagged the deal.
This could be an absolute steal for the Gujarat-based side, considering that Sundar has performed admirably in the recent past. The 25-year-old is currently part of India's squad for the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
He shone with the ball on his Test return, picking up 11 wickets across two innings in Pune against New Zealand last month. Sundar has also been a regular feature in the Men in Blue's T20I team lately.
Washington Sundar looked in stunning form in India's five-match away T20I series against Zimbabwe earlier this year. He bagged eight scalps from five outings and was adjudged the Player of the Series.
Washington Sundar has an impressive economy rate of 7.54 in IPL
Washington Sundar made his IPL debut in 2017 for the now-defunct Rising Pune Supergiant (RPS). The crafty spinner later had a four-year stint with the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) before moving to the SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) in 2022.
While he has bagged just 37 wickets so far in his IPL career, he has an impressive economy rate of 7.54 to his name. Sundar hasn't had many chances to prove his worth in the past two editions.
He featured in just seven games in 2023 and was ruled out of the remainder of the season due to a hamstring injury. In IPL 2024, the all-rounder featured in SRH's playing XI just twice.
