[Watch] “150 daala hai maine” - Jasprit Bumrah responds hilariously after being referred to as a medium-pace bowler ahead of BGT 2024-25
India’s stand-in captain Jasprit Bumrah responded with a witty remark when referred to as a medium-pacer during the pre-game press conference on Thursday, November 21, ahead of the first Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test, which starts on Friday, November 22, in Perth.
Rohit Sharma will miss the opening Test to spend time with his newborn son, whom he welcomed on November 15. This will mark just the second time Bumrah captains the Indian Test side.
During the press conference on Thursday, Bumrah was asked by a reporter:
“How does it feel to captain India as a medium-pace all-rounder?”
The 30-year-old responded with a witty remark, saying:
"Medium pace yaar? 150 daala hai maine, fast bowler bol skte ho. But mai yeh keh raha hu ke, mai as a fast bowling captain nhi dekhta apne aap ko, mai Indian players hu and mera job hai India ke liye best dena and Indian cricket ko aage lejana, mai us expect se cricket ko dekhta hu.”
Translation: [Medium pace, yaar? I’ve bowled at 150, you can call me a fast bowler. But what I’m saying is, I don’t see myself as a fast bowling captain. I am an Indian player, and my job is to give my best for India and take Indian cricket forward. That’s the perspective from which I view cricket.]
The Indian pace spearhead boasts a solid record in Tests in Australia, having claimed 32 wickets in seven matches, including one five-wicket haul.
"It is an honor” - Jasprit Bumrah on leading India in the 1st BGT Test 2024-25
In the press conference, Jasprit Bumrah expressed that it would be an honor to captain India, adding that his leadership style differs from that of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. Bumrah said:
"It is an honor. I have my own style. Virat was different, Rohit was different, and I have my own way. It is a privilege. I don't take it as a position. I love taking responsibility. I spoke with Rohit earlier. But I got a little bit of clarity on leading the side after coming in here."
Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma is likely to join the Indian team on November 24, 2024.
