[Watch] A bad review, two horrible missed reviews and a wicket in six balls as Shaheen Afridi wreaks Ireland in 2024 T20 World Cup
The Pakistan-Ireland dead rubber in the 2024 T20 World Cup on Sunday (June 16) saw one of the most dramatic overs from left-arm quick Shaheen Afridi. It gave a full-blown lesson on the Decision Review System within six balls.
The second ball hit Irish batter Curtis Campher on the toe. Pakistan's LBW appeal and an eventual review were both turned down because the ball had pitched outside leg. Two balls later, Afridi got Campher's partner, Harry Tector to edge an away-swinger to the wicketkeeper. However, nobody from the Pakistan team appealed, only to see an edge on the replays.
On the last ball, the left-arm pacer trapped Tector in front with a stunning in-swinger and the Irishman walked after seeing the umpire raise his finger. However, HawkEye replay showed that the ball was again pitching outside leg. Watch all the chaos:
This over came after Shaheen picked up Andrew Balbirnie and Lorcan Tector's wickets in the first over of the match. In the second, Mohammad Amir snapped up Paul Stirling, which meant the third over left the Irish reeling at 15/4.
Afridi has always had this ability to make the ball swing and get early wickets. However, the trick didn't work well in Pakistan's games so far. This is because the pitches, especially the one in New York, required them to hit the deck hard, and fuller lengths proved relatively easy for the batters.
Other Pakistani bowlers chip in with wickets after Shaheen Afridi's spell tanks Ireland
From reducing Ireland to 15/4, Pakistan soon made it 32/6 with Haris Rauf and Amir getting rid of Curtis Campher and George Dockrell soon after.
Gareth Delany and Mark Adair built up a small partnership but Imad Wasim tanked it by getting the former for 31 (19). Both teams are already out of the tournament but are trying to end it on a high. Catch all the live action here.
