[Watch] "Aapke one-liners ka wait karunga" - Suryakumar Yadav shares a cheeky message for Rohit Sharma ahead of Sri Lanka ODIs
Team India's T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav has shared a cheeky message for ODI skipper Rohit Sharma ahead of the ODI series against Sri Lanka. While wishing Rohit all the best for the ODIs, he added that he would be glued to the matches, expecting some interesting one-liners from the Indian batter.
Led by Suryakumar, the Men in Blue beat Sri Lanka 3-0 in the T20I series that concluded on Tuesday, July 30. India came from behind to take the third T20I played in Pallekele into the Super Over and went to win the one-over eliminator.
India and Sri Lanka will now clash in the three-match ODI series to be played at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo from August 2 to August 7. While Rohit has retired from T20Is, he will lead the team in the ODI series. The 37-year-old is known for his witty one-liners that are often caught by the stump mic.
Referring to the same, Suryakumar said in a video posted on BCCI's official X handle that he would be eagerly waiting to listen to Rohit's funny comments and observations during the ODI series against Sri Lanka.
"What message should I give him? All the best for the ODIs. I will watch the match very closely," the T20I skipper said.
"Aapke one-liners ka wait karunga. Mic ke pass hi rahoge aap, pata hai. Itne saare ladke aapko milenge naye naye. Toh ek one-liner ho jaaye. Kuch aur dhang ka sunenge. Maza aa jayega [I will wait for your one-liners. I know you will be near the mic. They are so many new boys that you are going to meet. So let's have a one-liner. It will be fun]," Rohit's Mumbai Indians (MI) teammate went on to add.

"When the equation was down to a run-a-ball, I went a month back" - Suryakumar reflects on 3rd T20I
Suryakumar came in for plenty of praise for his imaginative captaincy as India came back from nowhere to clinch the third T20I against Sri Lanka in the Super Over. Chasing 138, the hosts were cruising at 110-1 in the 16th over. Part-time off-spinners Rinku Singh and Suryakumar himself, however, bowled the last two overs and picked up two wickets each.
Rinku and the Indian captain's bowling heroics took the game into the Super Over. Washington Sundar then picked up two wickets in the Super Over, leaving India with only three runs to win. Reflecting on the sensational comeback, Suryakumar stated that he took inspiration from India's fightback in the T20 World Cup final against South Africa last month.
"When the equation was down to a run-a-ball, 30-ball 30 runs, I went a month back. Then I remembered, that wicket was still easy [to bat on], but this one is turning. I thought that if we get a wicket or bowl a couple of tight overs, we would be able to build pressure on the opposition. I have a simple high risk high reward philosophy and that worked," the Indian skipper stated.
Chasing 177 in the T20 World Cup final, South Africa were in control at 151-4 after 16 overs. However, India made a sensational comeback to restrict the Proteas to 169-8 and lift the ICC title.
