Former South African captain AB de Villiers took to his Instagram account on Saturday, August 31, to share a throwback video of him playing padel tennis. He was joined by former Australian speedster Brett Lee and former Indian cricketers Zaheer Khan, Aakash Chopra, and Robin Uthappa.
De Villiers unwinded by playing padel sport with his cricketer friends during his trip to India. The 40-year-old captioned the post:
"Throwback to a day of padel with some of my friends when I was in India 🇮🇳🎾."
It is worth mentioning that AB de Villiers announced his retirement from international cricket in 2018. The swashbuckling batter continued playing for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for three more years before calling it quits from all formats of the game.
De Villiers featured in 415 matches for South Africa across all formats. He aggregated 19,864 runs, including 47 centuries and 108 fifties, and is currently the second-highest run-getter for the Proteas in international cricket.
"It's fun and addictive" - AB de Villiers on picking up padel tennis
In a video shared by AB de Villiers on his Instagram account, he spoke about how he has enjoyed playing padel tennis lately. The cricketer-turned-commentator described the sport as fun and addictive.
Mentioning the benefits of playing padel, de Villiers said:
"I wanted to introduce you to the sport I have picked up and that I really enjoy playing. I have mentioned it before on the channel, it's called padel. Well, padel offers a range of benefits to keep fit, and to do so in a competitive sport that is fun to play, making it a sport for all age groups and fitness levels."
"I absolutely love it. It's a full-body workout, it improves coordination and reflexes. It's a low-impact sport, reducing the chances of injury, and most importantly, it's fun and addictive," he added.
AB de Villiers had an incredible stint with the RCB during his career. He remains the second-highest run-scorer for the franchise, having chalked up 4,522 runs from 145 innings at a strike rate of 158.33.
