[Watch] Abdullah Shafique hits a six off Jack Leach to bring up his 100 in 2024 PAK vs ENG 1st Test
Abdullah Shafique smashed a six off Jack Leach to reach his hundred in the opening Test between Pakistan and England in Multan on Day 1 (Monday, October 7). The right-handed batter took the aerial route on 94. This was Shafique’s fifth Test ton, second versus England.
Shafique achieved the milestone in the 55th over of Pakistan’s first innings. Leach bowled a tossed-up delivery and Shafique danced down the track, got to the pitch of the ball, and lofted it over mid-on. He took off his helmet to soak in the applause from the crowd before pointing his name on his back and doing sajda.

Abdullah Shafique and Shan Masood’s centuries helped England dominate Pakistan on Day 1 of the opening Test. The duo have shared a 253-run partnership for the second wicket.
At the time of writing, the Men in Green were 261/2 after 60 overs, with Masood and Babar Azam at the crease. Gus Atkinson has been the pick of the bowlers, scalping two wickets so far.
Pakistan are searching for their first Test win, having gone winless in their last 10 home Tests. They recently lost 0-2 versus Bangladesh. The Shan Masood-led side had previously lost to Australia by 0-3 (away from home).
On the other hand, England are coming on the back of a 2-1 home series win over Sri Lanka. Ollie Pope is leading the visitors in the absence of regular skipper Ben Stokes, who failed to recover from his hamstring injury ahead of the opening game.
England will be aiming to win back-to-back series in Pakistan having won their previous series by a 3-0 margin in 2022/23.
