[Watch] “Agar mithai hoti to sabko khilata” – Yuvraj Singh to paparazzi on India’s T20 World Cup win after 17 years

Former India cricketer Yuvraj Singh recently expressed his delight, as Rohit Sharma and company beat South Africa in the final to lift the 2024 T20 World Cup in Barbados on Saturday (June 29). The legendary all-rounder had played a significant role in helping India win the 2007 T20 World Cup and the 2011 ODI World Cup titles.

Yuvraj, who served as the global ambassador at the 2024 T20 World Cup, told the paparazzi he would have distributed sweets on the joyous occasion. This happened as he walked out after a stylish haircut in Mumbai, but regretted that he had nothing to offer the paps.

In a video shared by Bollywood Society on Instagram, Yuvraj said:

“Agar mithai hoti to sabko khilata (If I had sweets [right now with me], I would have distributed them to everyone).”

With the World Cup win, the Men in Blue ended India’s 11-year-old wait for an ICC trophy (the last win came at the 2013 Champions Trophy). They have now become the third team after the West Indies and England to have won two T20 World Cup trophies. The Rohit Sharma-led side also gave a fitting farewell to head coach Rahul Dravid whose term is over.

In the 2007 edition of the tournament, Yuvraj had scored 148 runs in five innings. The left-hander smashed 70 off 30 balls against Australia in the semifinal. He also slammed 58 off 16 against England, including six sixes in one over against Stuart Broad to hit the fastest fifty in the tournament history. With the ball, he scalped one wicket.

Overall, Yuvraj Singh represented India in 40 Tests, 304 ODIs, and 58 T20Is, scoring a total of 11,778 runs with the help of 17 centuries and 71 fifties. The left-arm spinner also scalped 148 wickets across formats for India. He announced his retirement from international cricket in June 2019.
