[Watch] Ajaz Patel dismisses Ravichandran Ashwin to complete his fifer in IND vs NZ 2024 3rd Test
Ajaz Patel dismissed Ravichandran Ashwin to bag his fifer on Day 2 of the third and final Test between India and New Zealand at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Saturday, November 2. Ajaz got rid of Ashwin caught behind to complete his sixth fifer in Asia.
The dismissal came in the 58th over of India’s first innings. Ajaz bowled a flighted delivery slower through the air and Ashwin lunged forward to defend towards the off-side. The ball spun away after pitching with an extra bounce that took an outside edge on its way to Daryl Mitchell at first slip.

Apart from Ashwin, Ajaz Patel also dismissed Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, Mohammed Siraj, and Sarfaraz Khan to complete his five-wicket haul. He had also picked up a 10-wicket haul at the same venue in 2021.
Ajaz Patel’s fifer helped New Zealand bundle out India for 263
A clinical bowling display from Ajaz Patel helped New Zealand bowl out India for 263 in the first innings. As a result, the hosts managed a meager 28-run first-innings lead.
Shubman Gill starred with the bat for India, scoring 90 runs off 146 balls, including one six and seven boundaries. Rishabh Pant smashed 60 off 59 deliveries, hitting two maximums and eight boundaries. Washington Sundar and Yashasvi Jaiswal also chipped in their 30s.
Opting to bat first, New Zealand posted 235 in the first innings. Daryl Mitchell top-scored with 82, a knock laced with three sixes and as many boundaries. Will Young also chipped in with 71, comprising two maximums and four boundaries. Ravindra Jadeja emerged as the leading wicket-taker, picking up a five-wicket haul, while Washington Sundar scalped four.
In the second innings, the Kiwis were 2-1, with Devon Conway and Young at the crease. Akash Deep cleaned up skipper Tom Latham for just 1.
