[Watch] Ajaz Patel dismisses Ravindra Jadeja to seal series win for New Zealand in IND vs NZ 2024 2nd Test

New Zealand left-arm spinner Ajaz Patel landed the final nail in the coffin by dismissing Ravindra Jadeja in the second Test in Pune to help their side to an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-game series. It was the second wicket of the innings for Ajaz as the Kiwis won by 113 runs to register their first-ever series win on Indian soil.

The dismissal occurred in the 61st over of the innings as Ajaz came on to bowl his 13th. Ravindra Jadeja, who was on strike, got a brace and went for the big shot by stepping out of the crease.

The left-handed batter looked to clear long-on but Tim Southee judged it exceptionally to take a good catch without touching the boundary rope.

The umpires still went upstairs to ensure that the catch was taken cleanly and they concluded that the former captain had done outstandingly well. The Black Caps were inevitably jubilant as Jadeja was dismissed for 42 off 84 deliveries, leading to India's first home series loss in 12 years.

Left-arm spinner Mitchell Santner was the chief destroyer as he added six second-innings wickets to his tally to follow the seven picked up in the first. New Zealand began Day 3 of the Test at 198/5 but were bowled out for 255 as Washington Sundar took four and Jadeja snaffled three.

However, the visitors' lead which was 301 overnight, had gone up to 358, leaving India chasing 359 for victory. The hosts' openers started aggressively, especially Yashasvi Jaiswal, who notched up a 41-ball half-century. While India walked out at lunch with 81-1 on the board, it soon became 178/7.

Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin offered some resistance but the tourists forced mistakes and coasted to a comfortable win.
