[Watch] Ajaz Patel takes a stunner at point to dismiss Yashasvi Jaiswal for 13 in the IND vs NZ 2024 1st Test

Team India opener Yashasvi Jaiswal was caught at point by New Zealand's Ajaz Patel in the first Test between India and New Zealand on Day 2 (Thursday, October 17). He was one of the six wickets to fall in the first session of the day.

Jaiswal walked out to bat under dark skies alongside skipper and fellow opening partner Rohit Sharma. Both were slow to get off the blocks and in a bid to accelerate, Rohit lost his wicket. Soon after, Virat Kohli and Sarfaraz Khan were dismissed for ducks as India found themselves reeling at 10/3.

Rishabh Pant joined Jaiswal in the middle and the duo stitched a 21-run partnership. Jaiswal and Pant hit a boundary each and the former looked to add another one to his tally. On the fifth ball of the 21st over, Jaiswal cut the ball hard but failed to intercept the gap as Ajaz Patel dived ahead and took a stunner to dismiss the opener.

Take a look at the dismissal below:

Jaiswal became the fourth wicket to fall in the session, scoring 13 off 63 balls and becoming the only batter alongside Rishabh Pant to score in double digits. His dismissal brought KL Rahul to the middle.

Rohit Sharma won the toss on a cloudy morning at M.Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru, and decided to bat first. Rohit (2 off 16) was the first of the six batters to be dismissed. Virat Kohli (0 off 9) and Sarfaraz Khan (0 off 3) returned to the pavilion for back-to-back ducks.

Jaiswal and Pant had a little partnership going on but it all went downhill as the left-handed was dismissed and consecutive ducks were in order again. KL Rahul (0 off 6), Ravindra Jadeja (0 off 6), and Ravichandran Ashwin (0 off 1) all got out without troubling the scorers.

Team India are on 34/7 after 24 overs. Their lowest total in Test match cricket is 36/9 which they scored against Australia in 2020 at Adelaide.
