[Watch] Ajinkya Rahane blasts 84 off 45 balls in SMAT 2024 quarterfinal against Vidarbha

Mumbai batter Ajinkya Rahane continued his dream run with the bat in the quarterfinal against Vidarbha in the ongoing 2024 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy in Bengaluru on Wednesday, December 11. The right-handed batter smashed 84 runs off 45 balls, a knock laced with three sixes and 10 boundaries.

Rahane shared an 83-run partnership with Prithvi Shaw for the opening wicket to set up the 222-run chase.

With the knock, Rahane continued his excellent form in the T20 tournament. He recently smashed 95 off 54 balls against Andhra. The 36-year-old is currently among the top four run-getters in the tournament with 334 runs in seven games (six innings), comprising four half-centuries.

Ajinkya Rahane was recently picked by the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for his base price at the IPL 2025 auction. He is now among the favorites to lead the Kolkata-based franchise next season. Rahane returns to the Eden Gardens after being picked by the Knight Riders for the 2022 edition of the T20 league.

Rahane has amassed 4642 runs in 185 games, including two tons and 30 half-centuries, in the league. He scored 242 runs in 13 games at a strike rate of 123.46 last season for Chennai Super Kings. Overall in T20s, he has amassed 6717 runs in 269 games, comprising two centuries and 47 fifties.

The senior batter will now be keen to deliver in the playoff as Mumbai aim to win the title. He will next be seen in action against Baroda in the SMAT semifinal in Bengaluru on Friday, December 13.

Ajinkya Rahane’s knock helped Mumbai beat Vidarbha by six wickets in the SMAT quarterfinal. Prithvi Shaw also chipped in with 49 off 36, comprising four maximums and five boundaries. Shivam Dube and Shreyansh Shedge stayed unbeaten on 37 (22) and 36 (12), respectively, as Mumbai chased down 222. Dipesh Parwani starred with the ball for Vidarbha, picking up two wickets.

Batting first, Vidarbha posted 221/6. Atharva Taide and A Wankhede scored 66 (41) and 51 (33), respectively. Shubham Dubey also chipped in with an unbeaten 43 off 19 deliveries. Atharva Vinod Ankolekar and Suryansh Shedge bagged two wickets apiece for Mumbai.
