[Watch] Akash Deep cleans up Nitish Reddy for a golden duck in IND A vs IND B 2024 Duleep Trophy match
Nitish Reddy's return to competitive cricket after recovering from an injury did not go as planned. Akash Deep dismissed the right-handed batter for a golden duck with a superb delivery on Day 1 of the Duleep Trophy match between India A and India B on Thursday, September 5, at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
The dismissal took place on the third ball of the 36th over. Akash Deep delivered a length ball that moved away a bit to catch Nitish Reddy off guard, as it clipped the top of the off-stump. This was Akash Deep's second consecutive wicket in two balls.
Here’s a video of the dismissal:
Nitish Reddy did not trouble the scorers, and his dismissal left India B reeling at 80/5 after 35.3 overs.
Musheer Khan stands tall at one end, but wickets tumble from the other
After being asked to bat first, India B captain Abhimanyu Easwaran and Yashasvi Jaiswal stitched together a 33-run opening partnership off 78 balls before the former was dismissed for 13 by Avesh Khan. Easwaran had looked comfortable until a lapse in concentration led him to edge a ball outside off-stump, which Dhruv Jurel expertly caught behind the stumps.
Jaiswal, unable to convert his start into a significant innings, was dismissed for 30 off 59 balls. Musheer Khan, who came in at No. 3, appeared solid but lost partners at the other end, including his elder brother Sarfaraz Khan, who struggled and was out for nine off 35 balls.
Rishabh Pant, making his return to red-ball cricket, had a disappointing outing, getting dismissed by Akash Deep for seven runs. On the very next ball, Akash Deep also removed Nitish Reddy for a golden duck. Washington Sundar was unfortunate to be run out at the non-striker's end for a duck.
At the time of writing, India B was 124/7 after 52 overs, with Musheer Khan (50) and Navdeep Saini (7) at the crease.
