[Watch] Allah Ghazanfar takes six wickets to trigger Bangladesh's batting collapse in AFG vs BAN 2024 1st ODI

Afghanistan off-spinner Allah Ghazanfar ran through Bangladesh's batting line-up in the first of the three ODIs on Wednesday, November 6, in Sharjah. The 18-year-old grabbed stunning figures of 6/26 to trigger a collapse as Afghanistan registered a massive win.

In pursuit of a modest 236, the Tigers were going strong at 120/2 and 132/3 at one stage. However, they slid to 139/9 in no time. Ghazanfar, who had tormented South Africa in the ODI series in September this year, began Bangladesh's collapse by dismissing Mehidy Hasan Miraz for 28. The youngster then removed Mushfiqur Rahim, Rishad Hossain, Taskin Ahmed, and Shoriful Islam.

The off-spinner had also snaffled the first wicket in the form of Tanzid Hasan. Rashid Khan picked up two wickets, while Mohammad Nabi and Azmatullah Omarzai snared one each to fashion a 92-run victory.

Earlier in the day, the toss fell in Afghanistan's favor and they opted to bat first. They found themselves in trouble in the 10th over as Bangladesh left them reeling at 35-4 and later 71/5. However, captain Hashmatullah Shahidi and Nabi joined hands for a 104-run stand. The latter top scored with 84 off 79 deliveries to lift their side to 235 in 49.4 overs.

Following the win, skipper Shahidi predicted a bright future for Ghazanfar and revealed how he warned the youngster after bowling a no-ball. Shahidi said at the post-match presentation (via Cricbuzz):

"He is a special talent, good kid, good future for Afghanistan. I trust him that's why he is in the team and playing. First few overs also he bowled well. After the no ball, I asked him what was he doing and asked him not to do it again (laughs)."

Afghanistan and Bangladesh will collide in the second ODI on Saturday, November 9, at the same venue.
