[Watch] Alzarri Joseph storms off the field over disagreement with captain over field placement during 3rd ENG vs WI 2024 ODIĀ
West Indies pacer Alzarri Joseph caused a major stir midway through the third ODI against England at the Kensington Oval in Barbados by choosing to walk off the field after a rift with skipper Shai Hope regarding field placement. He had an altercation with Hope after dismissing Jordan Cox with a stunning 148 kph bouncer in the fourth over of the innings.
While the rest of the team were celebrating the dismissal that left the visitors reeling at 10-2, the 27-year-old refused to join in, instead opting to have a go at Hope. The pacer bowled the remainder of the deliveries to complete the over, before walking off the field altogether.
West Indies were forced to field with only 10 players for an over, as the Antiguan was seething in the dressing room. He eventually came out to the dugout midway through the fifth over and was seen having animated discussions with head coach Daren Sammy and a few players on the bench.
Joseph made his way onto the ground at the start of the sixth over but was not handed the ball despite being in full flow with a fiery first spell with the new ball. He had to wait until the 12th over to bowl again.
Have a look at the incident right here:
West Indies continued to make inroads despite his absence with the ball in the latter half of the powerplay. All-rounder Romario Shepherd struck twice to reduce England to 24-4.
Joseph finished with figures of 2-45 as West Indies clinch series win
After being re-introduced into the attack in the second powerplay, Joseph troubled the England batters and conceded only one boundary until the death overs. He finished his spell in the 47th over, claiming Dan Mousley's wicket.
A largely disciplined bowling effort by the West Indies, including a scathing spell from Alzarri Joseph meant England finished at 263-8. The visitors executed a recovery through the lower-middle order, giving the bowlers a chance to defend the total and clinch the series.
However, the West Indies won the game by eight wickets, courtesy of centuries from Brandon King (102 off 117) and Keacy Carty (128* off 114). The pair shared a mammoth 209-run partnership for the second wicket as the hosts sealed the series by a 2-1 margin.
