[Watch] Andre Russell falls to Arshdeep Singh's street-smartness during KKR vs PBKS IPL 2024 match
Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) all-rounder Andre Russell's promising cameo didn't last long enough as he was dismissed by Punjab Kings (PBKS) pacer Arshdeep Singh during the IPL 2024 match between the two teams at the Eden Gardens on Friday, April 26.
Russell had a pretty crouched stance as he was ready to pounce on wide-line deliveries from Arshdeep. He did so on a couple of occasions, getting a six and a four.
However, Arshdeep Singh showed great presence of mind to surprise Andre Russell with a bouncer. Initially trying to evade it, Russell decided to play it at the last moment and was late on the shot. The all-rounder couldn't get the desired distance as it lobbed towards Harshal Patel at square leg.
Here's a video of how Russell was dismissed.
Having already scored 24 runs off 11 balls, Russell could have made a massive dent in Punjab's attack had he stayed till the end of the innings.
Dropped catches hurt PBKS as KKR set a mammoth target
Punjab's fielding was below par, and the KKR batters made them pay heavily with their opening partnership. Phil Salt and Sunil Narine, who gave multiple chances, made the visitors regret their missed opportunities with a massive opening stand of 138 runs.
Salt (75) & Narine (71) did their bit. Then, there were handy cameos from Venkatesh Iyer, Andre Russell and skipper Shreyas Iyer that played a role in the hosts posting a mammoth 261/6, which is the second-highest score by the Knight Riders in IPL history.
The Punjab Kings got off to a fantastic start in their chase, with Jonny Bairstow and Prabhsimran Singh adding 93 runs in the powerplay. However, Prabhsimran's unnecessary run-out has brought KKR back in control of the game at the time of writing. PBKS may need something special from Bairstow to pull this off.
