[Watch] Andries Gous and Harmeet Singh take Tabraiz Shamsi to the cleaners in USA vs South Africa Super 8 T20 World Cup 2024 game
USA batters Andries Gous and Harmeet Singh took South African left-arm wrist-spinner Tabraiz Shamsi to the cleaners in the Super 8 T20 World Cup 2024 match on Wednesday in Antigua. The duo slammed three sixes to score 22 runs in an over, putting the Proteas under pressure as they chased a 195-run target.
The incident occurred in the 18th over of the innings. The first two deliveries yielded only two runs, but Harmeet Singh slammed the third one for a six over wide long-on. The next ball went for two more runs, and Gous sent the last couple of deliveries for sixes over mid-wicket.
The co-hosts won the toss and asked Aiden Markram's men to bat. Although Saurabh Netravalkar dismissed Reeza Hendricks in the third over, Quinton de Kock played an excellent knock of 74 from 40 deliveries. Markram also played a good hand of 32-ball 46, while Tristan Stubbs and Heinrich Klaasen provided the finishing touches to propel their side to 194.
Anrich Nortje bowls a perfect 20th over to hold off USA as Proteas emerge victorious:
The North American nation looked down and out in the 12th over as they were reduced to 76/5. However, Gous and Harmeet revived their side's chances with a calculated counter-attack. With 26 required off the final over, Anrich Nortje conceded only seven runs to register an 18-run victory. In the process, South Africa also continued their unbeaten run in the multi-nation event.
The penultimate over sent down by Kagiso Rabada was equally crucial as he conceded only a couple of runs along with dismissing Harmeet Singh for 38. Gous remained unbeaten on 80 off 47 balls. De Kock earned the Player of the Match award.
South Africa will face defending champions England on Friday in Gros Islet, while the USA are scheduled to lock horns with the West Indies on Saturday in Barbados.
