Anushka Sharma applauded joyously in the stands at the Perth Stadium after her husband Virat Kohli completed his half-century in the second innings of the ongoing Perth Test against Australia. Kohli walked in just after lunch on Day 3 following Devdutt Padikkal's dismissal on the first ball of the second session.

India were in a strong position with 275 runs on the board in 84.1 overs at the juncture. Virat Kohli batted sensibly and built the innings further from a great platform. After Yashasvi Jaiswal's departure in the 94th over, Rishabh Pant (1) and Dhruv Jurel (1) also returned to the pavilion quickly, leaving India at 321/5.

Virat did not let things slip for his side by stitching a solid partnership with Washington Sundar to consolidate after a flurry of wickets. Kohli reached his half-century in the 117th over with a flick through the mid-wicket region. He received warm applause from Anushka Sharma after he reached the milestone.

"He's the guy who will have to do the job"- Cheteshwar Pujara on Virat Kohli's importance for India in BGT 2024-25 Test series vs Australia

Cheteshwar Pujara recently opined that India's fortunes in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series against Australia depend on Virat Kohli's batting form. During a discussion on Star Sports, Pujara shed light on the importance of Kohli for the visiting team, saying:

"He plays a very important role in this series and I think he's the guy who will have to do the job. Because if you look at the experience in this squad, he's the most experienced player. The kind of player he has been throughout the career, we want the Virat Kohli, the one who has been scoring lot of runs, we want that back. Because if India has to win, he has to score a lot of hundreds in Australia. He will play an important role."

The 36-year-old added:

"There are times, even if he doesn't get to 100, but even if he scores those important 70s, 80s, that will hold the team together because he bats at No. 4 and that is the position which is the most important position in Australia."
