[Watch] Anushka Sharma and Sanjana Ganesan's relieved reactions after India finally took Australia's last wicket in 2nd innings of the Perth Test
Anushka Sharma and Sanjana Ganesan were relieved in the stands like millions of Indian fans across the world after the fall of Australia's final wicket in the second innings of the opening Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test. Anushka and Sanjana were in attendance at the Perth Stadium, with their husbands, Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah, on the field in action.
Australia began Day 2 with an overnight score of 67/7 in response to India's first-innings total of 150. The hosts soon found themselves reeling at 79/9 and in danger of conceding a sizeable first-innings lead. Mitchell Starc (26 off 112 balls) and Josh Hazlewood (7* off 31 balls) dug deep and frustrated the Indian bowlers with a brilliant rear guard effort, batting for 18 overs. Harshit Rana eventually ended the partnership by dismissing Starc in the 52nd over to wrap up the second innings of the match.
Anushka Sharma and Sanjana Ganesan were visibly pleased with the dismissal, as the last two batters frustrated the visiting team with their defensive game. Jasprit Bumrah's 5-wicket haul helps India take a 46-run lead in 1st Test vs Australia in BGT 2024-25
India's stand-in captain, Jasprit Bumrah, won the toss and opted to bat first in the contest on the green surface in overcast conditions.
Mitchell Starc (2/14), Josh Hazlewood (4/29), Pat Cummins (2/67), and Mitchell Marsh (2/12) utilized the seamer-friendly track and bundled the visiting side for 150 in the first innings.
Bumrah (5/30) then wreaked havoc and destroyed the Australian batting line-up to help his side mount a comeback. Mohammed Siraj (2/20) and Harshit Rana (3/48) combined well with their captain to skittle out Australia for 104 and secure a handy 46-run first-innings lead.
