[Watch] Arshdeep Singh dismisses Aiden Markram for just 4 runs in IND vs SA 2024 T20 World Cup finalĀ

Team India left-arm seamer Arshdeep Singh struck with the new ball to dismiss South Africa skipper Aiden Markram in the 2024 T20 World Cup final. The right-handed batter edged one to the keeper to worsen South Africa's start to the run chase at the Kensington Oval in Barbados on June 29.

South Africa were handed a target of 177 after a fifty by Virat Kohli and a valuable set of cameos from other batters. Markram had to come out in the second over itself after Jasprit Bumrah castled Reeza Hendricks with a brilliant delivery. The skipper began his innings with a brilliant boundary but perished in the very next over itself.

Markram aimed to play another lavish drive off Arshdeep Singh's delivery well outside the off stump. However, the right-handed batter's stroke only made contact with the ball through the outside edge. Rishabh Pant took a composed catch behind the stumps to seal India's second breakthrough in the contest. Have a look at the dismissal right here:

The Proteas were reduced to 12-2 in the third over after Aiden Markram's wicket. They are trying to claw their way back into the contest and maximize the remainder of the powerplay. As of writing, Quinton de Kock and Tristan Stubbs are negotiating with the Indian bowlers.

Aiden Markram had a dismal T20 World Cup campaign with the bat

Aiden Markram scripted history by becoming the first captain to lead South Africa into the final of an ICC event. However, he did not contribute much as a batter during the unbeaten run. Having been assigned to play the first three matches in New York, South African batters generally struggled, and Markram was no exception.

The skipper scored only 31 runs in the group stage, including a duck against the Netherlands. He scored a positive 46-run knock in the win over USA in the Super 8, and recorded an unbeaten cameo in the semi-final win over Afghanistan. However, his overall tournament numbers were quite poor as he ended his campaign with 123 runs in nine innings.
