[Watch] Arshdeep Singh strikes in his first over to dismiss David Warner in IND vs AUS 2024 T20 World Cup Super 8 clashÂ
Team India seamer Arshdeep Singh delivered an early breakthrough for India in the ongoing 2024 T20 World Cup Super 8 clash against Australia. The left-arm pacer dismissed David Warner in the first over of the innings at the Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium in St. Lucia on Monday, June 24.
Australia will have to chase down the 206-run target set by India to remain alive in the competition. Arshdeep, with the new ball, had two left-handed batters David Warner and Travis Head up against him. The pacer made a decent start to the over and got the ball to move just a bit.
The final delivery of the over saw him bowl a gentle outswinger to Warner. The left-handed batter could not resist trying to play it. He only managed to edge it towards slip, where Suryakumar Yadav took a well-judged catch.
Have a look at the dismissal right here:
David Warner walked back after scoring six runs off six deliveries with a boundary to his name. The veteran batter scored a match-winning fifty in the Super 8 contest against Bangladesh, but could not get to double figures in recent matches against Afghanistan and Scotland.
Australia find rhythm after Warner's dismissal by Arshdeep
Australia were under pressure at the end of the first over and managed to absorb India's charges to an extent. The Men in Blue's fielding efforts only fuelled the chasing side as Marsh was handed multiple reprieves following Rishabh Pant and Arshdeep Singh's missed chances.
Australia have raced off to 49/1 as Marsh took on Axar Patel while Head dealt with Bumrah to maximize the powerplay and keep the required run rate under check.
The Men in Yellow are in a tricky position in the Super 8 stage after losing to Afghanistan recently in St.Vincent. Afghanistan are also poised to play Bangladesh in the final league contest of the competition, a contest that will determine the final standings ahead of the semi-finals.
