[Watch] Arundhati Reddy removes Suzie Bates to provide first breakthrough for India during IND vs NZ Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 game
Pacer Arundhati Reddy delivered the first breakthrough for India by dismissing the formidable Suzie Bates in their opening match of the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 on Friday, October 4. The game is being played at Dubai International Cricket Stadium in the UAE.
The dismissal took place on the fourth ball of the eighth over. Arundhati bowled a length delivery on middle stump, and Bates tried to smack it out of the park, but it didn’t have enough power behind it and was caught at deep midwicket by Shreyanka Patil, giving the Women in Blue their first breakthrough.

The veteran cricketer scored 27 runs off 24 balls, hitting two boundaries. Bates' dismissal left New Zealand at 67/1 after 7.4 overs.
New Zealand lose two quick wickets after a decent start
New Zealand Women won the toss and chose to bat first. The Black Caps openers, Suzie Bates and Georgia Plimmer, came out all guns blazing, scoring 55 runs in the batting powerplay. Arundhati Reddy provided India with their first wicket by dismissing Bates for 27 in the eighth over.
In the next over, Asha Sobhana removed Plimmer for 34 off 23 balls, giving India their second wicket. Captain Sophie Devine and Amelia Kerr put together 32 runs off 37 balls for the third wicket before Renuka Singh dismissed the latter for 13 off 22 balls.
At the time of writing, New Zealand were 109/3 after 15 overs, with Devine (27) and Brooke Halliday (1) at the crease.
