[Watch] Ashton Agar braves shoulder injury by batting with one hand for Western Australia

Western Australia spinner Ashton Agar batted one-handed after sustaining a shoulder injury during a Sheffield Shield encounter against Victoria in Melbourne. The visitors were on the back foot after conceding a heavy first-innings lead, and only led by 105 runs with one wicket remaining in the second innings.

With centurion Joel Curtis at the other end, Agar chose to walk out as the last batter despite his left hand being out of commission due to a shoulder injury that he suffered earlier during the contest.

His stint at the crease lasted only five deliveries, as he was bowled by Sam Elliott in the 136th over. However, his presence at the crease allowed Westen Australia to add 15 more runs, stretching the lead to 120.

Agar copped blows to his body while dealing bouncers from Xavier Crone, and defended deliveries by Todd Murphy in his short stay out in the middle.

Have a look at the brave act right here:

Victoria ended up chasing the target easily, courtesy of fifties by Marcus Harris and skipper Peter Handscomb. The hosts secured an eight-wicket victory to climb to the top of the table. Ashton Agar did not take the field and bowl in the final innings of the contest.

Ashton Agar will be looking to recover in time for the Sri Lanka tour

The left-arm spinner was not selected for the home series against India, with Australia opting to go with the ever-reliable Nathan Lyon as their sole spin-bowling option.

While there is no update regarding the extent of the injury, Agar will be eyeing the tour of Sri Lanka in early 2025, the team's last assignment in the 2023-25 World Test Championship (WTC) cycle.

Agar had recently scored a fifty and picked up four wickets in Western Australia's recent mammoth win over Tasmania. He last played for Australia during the 2024 T20 World Cup during the clash against Afghanistan, where he replaced Mitchell Starc in the playing XI.
