[Watch] Austria pulls off a miraculous chase by scoring 61 in the last two overs against Romania

On Sunday, July 14, the Austrian cricket team scored 61 runs off the final two overs to pull off a miraculous chase against Romania. Austria faced Romania in the seventh match of the ECI T10 Romania 2024 at Moara Vlasiei Cricket Ground, Ilfov County, Bucharest.

After being asked to bat first, Romania scored 167 runs in their allotted 10 overs. In response, Austria were 107/3 after eight overs. The Austrian team looked out of the game when they needed 61 of the last two overs. However, no one would have imagined what was coming next.

Manmeet Koli came to bowl the penultimate over and was hit all around the park. Austrian batter Aqib Iqbal went berserk; he hit two boundaries and four maximums in the over. Manmeet was clueless, with a five wide and two no-balls in the over didn't help his cause, as he conceded 41 runs in his over.

Here’s the video of the last two overs of the innings:

Austria required 20 runs in the final over. Imran Asif smacked a six to start the over and then took a single off the second ball. When they needed 13 off the last four balls, Aqib Iqbal smashed three sixes in a row against Chamalka Fernando to seal the game for Austria.

As Austria pulled off a stunning chase, Captain Aqib remained unbeaten on 72 from 19 balls. The right-handed batter smashed two fours and 10 sixes in his inning.

Ariyan Mohammed went berserk in the first half against Austria

Before the Austrian havoc, it was Ariyan Mohammed’s show in the first inning. Romania lost opener Irfan Husain for a duck, but his partner Muhammad Moiz scored 42 off 14 balls.

Following that, keeper Ariyan stole the show for Romania. The right-handed batter remained unbeaten on 104 off 39 balls, hitting 11 fours and eight sixes in his brilliant innings. He led the team to a good total, but Austria had some other plans.
