[Watch] Axar Patel bags best fielder medal for outrageous catch to dismiss Mitchell Marsh in IND vs AUS 2024 T20 World Cup Super-8 clash

India all-rounder Axar Patel won the best fielder medal for his catch of the tournament contender to dismiss Australia captain Mitchell Marsh in the 2024 T20 World Cup match in Gros Islet on Monday, June 24. With the catch, Axar provided a much-needed breakthrough for the Men in Blue by breaking the second wicket stand between Marsh and Travis Head.

Axar took the stunning catch as he jumped to perfection while falling in the process. He plucked it out of thin air near the boundary during the ninth over bowled by Kuldeep Yadav. The all-rounder grabbed it off his right hand despite being a southpaw.

Axar beat India captain Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, and Kuldeep Yadav for the best fielder’s medal. Team India’s training assistant and throwdown specialist Nuwan Seneviratne handed the medal to Axar.

India set to play against England in repeat of 2022 T20 World Cup semifinal

India will next lock horns with England in a repeat of the 2022 T20 World Cup semifinal. The match will be played at Providence Stadium in Guyana on June 27. The Men in Blue will be keen to avenge the 10-wicket loss they suffered against the defending champions in the last edition of the ICC event.

In the post-match show, Rohit Sharma said that India will continue their aggressive approach against England in their upcoming fixture:

“We don't want to do anything different, play the same way and understand what each person has to do. Play freely and not think too much on what's lying ahead. Not think about the opposition. We have been doing it consistently, just need to continue. It will be a nice match, nothing changes for us as a team.”

Rohit Sharma and Co. will look to continue their unbeaten streak as they look to win their first ICC trophy in more than 10 years. Meanwhile, Afghanistan will play South Africa in semifinal 1, scheduled to be held in Trinidad on June 26 (6 am IST on June 27).
