[Watch] Axar Patel smashes a one-handed six off Chris Jordan during IND vs ENG T20 World Cup semifinal
Indian all-rounder Axar Patel got a crucial hit away towards the backend of the innings in the T20 World Cup semifinal against England in Guyana on Thursday, June 27. The southpaw smashed a one-handed six off Chris Jordan's bowling to get the Men in Blue to the 170-run mark.
Jordan bowled a slower delivery into the pitch on the fourth delivery of the final over. However, due to the lack of bounce in the surface, the ball sat up nicely. Even though Axar lost control of his bottom hand at the point of contact, he got enough on it to send it flying over the rope.
Here's a video of the six:
Axar Patel got dismissed on the very next delivery as he couldn't clear deep mid-wicket. However, he did play a handy knock of 10 off just six balls in what could be a game of fine margins.
Axar Patel and Ravindra Jadeja's key partnership gets India past 170
Hardik Pandya had injected momentum into India's innings with back-to-back sixes off Chris Jrdan's bowling. However, Jordan got England right back into it with back-to-back wickets of Hardik and Shivam Dube. The Men in Blue needed momentum to reach the 165-170 mark, which was provided by the partnership between Ravindra Jadeja and Axar.
Jadeja scored a couple of boundaries off Jofra Archer's bowling and then Axar Patel's six contributed to 24 runs off 12 balls for India's seventh wicket. A crucial aspect of the partnership was how hard they ran between the wickets and converted singles into doubles.
167 is the par score in the first innings at Guyana and India will be relatively happy with 171/7 on the board, especially with the stoppages caused due to rain. The onus will now be on the bowlers to make use of the slowness of the surface.
