[Watch] Babar Azam smashes five consecutive boundaries against Shahnawaz Dahani in Champions One-Day Cup 2024

Pakistan batter Babar Azam continued his electrifying form in the new Champions One-Day Cup tournament by smashing five consecutive boundaries off pacer Shahnawaz Dahani at Faisalabad on Sunday, September 15. Chasing 232 for victory against the Markhors, Babar was in early with the Stallions at 13/1 in the fifth over.

After getting his eye in at 5 off 10 deliveries, the Pakistan white-ball captain unleashes on Dahani's first over. Following a dot to begin the over, Babar struck the next five balls for boundaries to all parts of the ground, much to the delight of a packed crowd. The package had his trademark backfoot punch and front-foot pull, among others.

Despite the incredible start, Babar could not convert it to a big score as he fell on a run-a-ball 45 with the aid of eight boundaries.

His dismissal was the final nail in the coffin for the Stallions as they collapsed from 79-3 to being bowled out for 105, losing by a massive 126 runs.

While Dahani bowled only the lone 20-run over, Zahid Mahmood and Agha Salman combined for 8 wickets to help the Markhors win their second consecutive game to begin the One-Day Cup.


Babar Azam starred in the Stallions' win in the opening game

Babar Azam starred with the bat in the Stallions' Champions One-Day Cup opening-game win over the Lions. The 29-year-old scored a stylish 76 off 79 deliveries with eight boundaries to help the side post a mammoth 336/5 in 50 overs.

The Stallions then bowled the Lions out for a paltry 203 to complete a 133-run victory to start their campaign on a winning note.

Babar was also awarded the Player of the Match for his showing and is the second-leading scorer of the tournament with 121 runs in two games.

The champion batter will be in action next when the Stallions take on the Dolphins on Thursday, September 19.
