"I feel he should take the role of a captain only, whichever franchise is offering it" - Mohammad Kaif on Rohit Sharma ahead of IPL 2025
During a recent discussion on Star Sports, Mohammad Kaif opined that Rohit Sharma should only play as a captain in the IPL next season, considering his phenomenal record. He pointed out that multiple franchises will be ready to offer him captaincy as he won the 2024 T20 World Cup for India.
The 43-year-old said:
"Rohit Sharma should play as a captain only in the IPL because he is such a great captain. He has come after winning the T20 World Cup. He would have offers. We know people would have been calling him and asking him to play for them. I feel he should take the role of a captain only, whichever franchise is offering it."
He continued:
"Just like Hardik Pandya came here from Gujarat last time, Rohit can also go anywhere, and he should go. Rohit Sharma's remaining two or three years should be in the role of a leader only. What he can do on the field as a captain, a lot of people don't have that quality in the entire IPL. He has won the trophy five times (as captain)."
