Adelaide Strikers' Bridget Patterson sustained a face injury while wicketkeeping in the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) 2024. The game between the Strikers and Sydney Sixers was played at the North Sydney Oval.
The incident took place during the fourth over of the Sixers’ run chase. Darcie Brown bowled a length ball and the batter missed it completely. The ball pitched again in front of Patterson before hitting her in the face. The keeper fell flat abruptly and was immediately taken off the field by the physio.

Bridget Patterson’s Adelaide Strikers beat Sydney Sixers by 11 runs in WBBL clash
A clinical bowling display helped Adelaide Strikers beat Sydney Sixers in Match 5 of WBBL 2024.
Asked to bat first, the Strikers hit 171 in 20 overs. Apart from Patterson, Amanda-Jade Wellington and Orla Prendergast chipped in with 40 (16) and 39 (31), respectively.
Ashleigh Gardner emerged as the leading wicket-taker for the Sixers by picking up four wickets. Meanwhile, Lauren Cheatle and skipper Ellyse Perry also bagged three and two wickets, respectively.
In response, Sydney Sixers managed 160/9 in their allotted 20 overs. Sarah Bryce starred with the bat, scoring 62 off 44 deliveries, a knock laced with two sixes and five boundaries. Ellyse Perry also slammed a quickfire 54 off 28 balls, hitting 11 boundaries. Elsa Hunter also chipped in with 28 off 22. However, the team fell 11 runs short as they lost their last five wickets for just five runs.
Anesu Mushangwe starred with the ball for the Strikers, returning with three wickets. Megan Schutt, Darcie Brown, and Amanda-Jade Wellington picked up two wickets apiece.
With the victory, Adelaide returned to winning ways after losing their opening game against Brisbane Heat by four wickets. On the contrary, the Sixers registered their loss after winning their first game against Melbourne Renegades by three wickets.
