[Watch] Brydon Carse takes outrageous catch to dismiss Steve Smith in the ENG vs AUS 2024 3rd ODI

Australia ace batter Steve Smith was caught at the boundary, courtesy of a fine catch by Brydon Carse in the ongoing third ODI between England and Australia on Tuesday, September 24. The Riverside Ground at Chester Le Street plays host to this contest.

Steve Smith walked out to bat at number three in this contest. He was slow to get off the blocks but did really well to pace his innings. The 35-year-old registered another half-century in his ODI career and looked well set on his way to another hundred.

On the third ball of the 35th over, Smith looked to go big off the bowling of Jofra Archer and managed to do so as well. As the ball dipped near the boundary ropes, Brydon Carse ran in a few paces, put in a dive and took a stunner to help England pick up the fifth wicket.

Take a look at the dismissal below:

Steve Smith was dismissed for a well-constructed 60 runs off 82 balls. He was the glue that held the innings together, with his dismissal leaving England on 172/5. His wicket brought Glenn Maxwell to the middle.

Hosts England won the toss and elected to bat first under some cloud cover against Australia. They had a good start with the ball as Matthew Short (14 off 12) and Mitchell Marsh (24 off 38) lost their respective wickets in the powerplay.

A period of calm was ensured as Steve Smith (60 off 82) and Cameron Green (42 off 49) stitched together an 84-run partnership. Marnus Labuschagne was dismissed for a three-ball duck and Glenn Maxwell (30 off 25) played a good cameo and assisted Alex Carey towards the end of Powerplay 2.

At the time of writing, Aaron Hardie and Alex Carey are in the middle for the visitors, with the score reading 249/6 after 46 overs. They will be looking to breach the 270-run mark, a score considered par on this ground.
